An eReader with an E Ink colour display looks set to make its debut with PocketBook’s announcement of a forthcoming model featuring this exciting technology.

A  two-corner battle has long taken place between E Ink screens which have only been capable of a limited grey scale display, and the more established power-hungry full colour LCD displays. But that all seems set to change with the introduction of this new device, based on E Ink Triton technology.

With the grey-scale barrier out of the way, the road will be clear for the colour E Ink screen to display colour magazines and technical documents containing detailed colour tables and graphs.

The device will have an 8-inch touch screen of 800×600 pixels, with sensors incorporated into the frame bezel to adjust the screen light brightness. Battery life is rumoured to stretch to a month or more, a significant improvement on current conventional LCD eReaders, which typically only last a couple of days between charges.

A release date of June 2013 is hinted at, though as yet no price has been announced for this new device.
